Members of SUNY Fredonia's School of Music

Schönberg, in his setting of Giraud's French Symbolist poetry, animates the figures of the Renaissance commedia dell'arte with the spirit of fin de siècle Vienna and a musical technique that opened up a world of possibilities for decades of exploration. Despite the important, even essential position occupied by this seminal work of twentieth century music, it has been infrequently heard in Buffalo in the past decades. James Currie, UB's brilliant and engaging professor of historical musicology, will begin the performance with a short lecture.
